4-Liner, 2-Tonne Stormwater Pipe Reline in Grafton — With Zero Excavation
The Challenge
In Grafton, NSW, Renoline was called in to manage one of our most logistically demanding trenchless pipe relining projects to date. The task? Relining four oversized stormwater pipes—two at 900mm and two at a massive 1500mm diameter.
These weren’t just large; they were industrial-scale. Each 1500mm liner weighed over 2 tonnes, requiring meticulous planning, heavy-lifting logistics, and advanced trenchless engineering. Standard relining methods were off the table. This job demanded cranes, coordination, and absolute precision.
Our Approach
Led by experienced crew members Rick and Joe, the Renoline team took a solution-focused, safety-first approach. Our priorities were clear from the outset:
- Safe handling of oversized, heavyweight liners
- Maintaining structural integrity during lifting and curing
- Ensuring pinpoint accuracy during liner alignment
- Minimising project downtime and environmental impact
To manage the scale, we deployed a mobile crane for controlled, precision liner placement—ensuring a flawless setup without damage or compromise.
The Installation Process
- 2 x 900mm liners installed using high-capacity trenchless relining techniques
- 2 x 1500mm liners carefully lifted into place with crane-assisted handling
- All liners cured in place using controlled UV and ambient curing methods
- Zero excavation required, preserving roads, infrastructure, and natural surroundings
Every movement, from crane transfer to liner insertion, was executed under tight coordination. The liners bonded perfectly, delivering seamless reinforcement across all four host pipes.
The Results
- 0 disruption to surrounding infrastructure or stormwater flow
- 100% trenchless installation with no need for digging or excavation
- 100-year service life projection for stormwater durability
- Reduced installation time by 40% compared to traditional dig-and-replace methods
- Minimal environmental impact, meeting council compliance standards
This large-diameter pipe relining project is a clear example of how Renoline scales up to meet the demands of complex infrastructure without compromising quality or speed.
